Version 2.2 of Android also known as “Android Froyo” has been officially released by HTC for the Desire. Previously there was speculation that the Android Froyo would be coming for HTC Desire and was later confirmed by HTC Netherlands where the ROM Update was released early.
The Android 2.2 is available for HTC Desire users in Europe and can be downloaded using the OTA Upgrade feature. Users can either opt to download the firmware through their WiFi networks or through 3G/HSDPA.
The latest version of the Android operating system brings many new pre-installed features for HTC users. Not only is there an improved battery and cpu performance but also applications like Flashlight, Google Places, and WiFi Hotspot now available on the Desire. I have found that these applications have been quite useful for me especially the WiFi Hotspot which allows me to connect computers to the Desire and access internet.

HTC Netherlands has confirmed on their twitter account that their top selling phone “HTC Desire” will be finally getting the Android 2.2 firmware update. The update has been confirmed to be for Netherlands at the moment however no information about the update being introduced in other countries especially the United Kingdom has been announced at the moment.
We have been eagerly waiting for the Android OS update for the HTC Desire. The latest update for HTC Desire will bring out a number of new features on the phone mainly being hd recording, improved battery life and phone performance. The latest firmware version that is officially available in the market is the Android OS version 2.1 update1.
The tweet from HTC NL says – “HTC will start tomorrow with the upgrades to 2.2 for Android Desire! Other devices will follow.” suggesting that the froyo update is not just being introduced on just the HTC Desire but will also be introduced on other HTC phones. Even though many previous phones will not be able to implement all of the features, they will still be able to make use of improved performance brought by the latest firmware update.

Even though the Desire and Legend came out in the same month, the HTC Desire is said to be a successor of the TC Legend. Part of the reason could be because both of the phones came out with the same version of the Operating System and have almost similar features.
The Desire is said to be a powerful android phone powered with a 1 GHz processor and also more amounts of RAM compared to the Legend. This can be useful for those who want to run media and heavy applications on their device. Even though Legend can also perform the same functions without hiccups, there can be a significant difference in the loading times of applications, web page rendering etcetera. In case you want to access heavy web pages and games on your phone then the Desire would be more suitable option for you.
HTC Legend has a smaller screen with less resolution compared to the Desire. Though a smaller screen might not be preferred by some people, it might be preferred by those who want the phone to easily fit in their pocket without problem. The Desire is quite a bulky phone with a large screen.
The phones have no difference in their 3G / Networking capabilities. Both phones have got HSDPA, WiFi, Bluetooth which makes it easy to transfer data or access internet.
Other than that there is no remarkable difference in the features. Applications can vary depending on the service provider. The Desire is a bit expensive than the Legend because it has more features than the Legend. However in case you want to save some money, then the Legend will serve your purpose well.

Even though officially Froyo has not yet been made available for the HTC Desire and many other android phones. Press release from ARM has claimed that the latest version of Android 2.2 brings several performance updates for the phone as the operating system exploits the ARM architecture.
Since the Snapdragon Processor has similar architecture to that of the Cortex A8 we can expect similar or more performance from the Snapdragon processor installed in the HTC Desire.
In Android 2.2 Google’s new compiler Dalvik JIT Compiler generates native Thumb 2 code which can boost performance to the Java application framework and improve application performance resulting in greater battery life.
Also the latest version enables data processing parallelization to accelerate various functions like multi-media playback and graphics rendering. This will allow developers to produce performance intensive applications which can be 3D gaming and VoIP clients.
Also users can expect improved JavaScript performance and page rendering speeds in the latest version of Android Operating System for mobile devices.
This upgrade will be really worth for HTC phone users who loved the phone but had been disappointed with the battery life of the phone.

A while ago I had shown my disappointment regarding the battery performance of HTC Desire that I had purchased a while ago. Now after talking to my friends I have realised that I am not the only one who has noticed unsatisfactory results of the HTC phone battery.
I had gone through comments and feedback of many other customers out of which many claimed that their phone had been performing quite well. However I have been through several other websites where many have claimed dissatisfaction with the phone battery. As I had talked about testing my phone battery, I did.
The test was quite simple – After performing a complete charge on the phone. I kept the phone usage to a minimum mainly to check the battery and other times it was kept on the standby mode. The phone had its wireless fidelity, bluetooth and other features that could drain the battery turned off.
The result was that I noticed that the battery had depleted completely in less than four days. Now HTC website claims that the phone has a standby of around 360 hours but I have hardly got anywhere near it.

Though previously there had been news regarding HTC Desire to be hitting the American shores in August, it might be coming out a bit early than expected.
As Engadget reports, a new HTC Device around the corner has got its approval by the FCC and it has its model code quite close to the Desire. The possible change in the model code would be due to the change in frequencies what the US model offers compared to the European version of HTC Desire.
It is quite possible that the American version of the HTC Desire would be coming out as HTC Triumph.
As Mobilecrunch reports, the Desire might not be coming on top mobile phone carriers which might be a bit disappointing.

HTC’s Desire is one of the best phones that has been produced by the company. The Desire has really good phone specifications, it has lots of cpu power, lots of ram, memory card for extra storage, wifi, bluetooth, gps and being powered by the Android Operating system.
But everything in the HTC Desire comes at a cost – that is the battery life. Just a few minutes of usage and the percentage of batter remaining keeps dropping fast enough.
The phone is completely not viable for those who like to listen to music for hours since the battery can’t keep up with it.
Even after disabling almost everything in the phone – the bluetooth, the wifi, the gps and reducing the backlight – the battery life in the phone is still disappointing. At the moment most of the battery life of the HTC Desire which I have is going in Phone Idle and Cell Standby so these would be the two things that company needs to work on in order to have longer battery life on the phone.
Despite the battery life problem, I would still recommend this phone to anyone. In case you think Battery life is going to be a big issue then have a look at the HTC Wildfire. It is lighter and offers better battery life compared to the HTC Desire.
I will be having a look on how much stand by the phone really offers as to what is being claimed.

In case you have had trouble with the HTC Desire and noticed that whenever you plugged the audio jack into your HTC device, it still played the sounds from the speaker? I had been having this issue previously however since I have installed the 2.1 update-1, this issue has got resolved (I am thinking that it was the firmware since I did not touched any of the phone settings).
HTC has been pushing out the firmware over the air upgrade recently so in case you have not yet received the updated version yet, you will need to wait for the notification. HTC has been providing ROM Updates for many of its phones including the HTC HD Mini, HTC Hero.
In case you have the HTC Legend then the firmware version will be 1.31.405.4 however the HTC Desire will display the firmware version as 1.21.405.2.

Even though Apple’s iPhone 4 has managed to make record sales this time compared to its previous generations, popularity of iPhone alternatives like the HTC Desire remains strong among the consumers. One of the selling point of the HTC Desire compared to the iPhone 4 is the price of the phone and the set of features in both of the phones.
One thing that most consumers have liked about the android based phones is the ease of use which is quite similar to the iPhone in many ways. Since the iPhone 4 is not available in many of the countries, many people have preferred to take on the Desire after being recommended by their friends, family or colleagues.
The Desire has set out to become one of the strongest competitors against the Apple iPhone 4. HTC’s popularity has threatened Apple that it had to file lawsuit for patent violations against HTC in order to stop them from selling many of their phones that are available in the market.

Just heard of rumours flying around about an HTC Desire update that puts the Android Froyo firmware on the HTC Desire and adds up some new more functionalities onto the device including HD Recording. I have not been able to get any proper sources that could confirm the availability of such firmware for the HTC Desire.
The latest firmware that has been made available at the moment for HTC Desire is 2.1 Update1 that was made available OTA just recently by mobile networks in the United Kingdom. The 2.1 Update1 is currently the latest firmware that is available for HTC Desire.
It is quite possible that some people got to install the latest firmware or a custom version by using exploits on their HTC Desire.
