Just after ARM and Microsoft announced that they have signed a new licensing agreement, shares of ARM Holdings have shown significant gains in the market. According to the press release issued, Microsoft will be applying and working with ARM technology in concert with a broad range of businesses addressing multiple application areas.
It is expected that Microsoft will be using ARM technologies in “mobile” devices though specific details of products have not been announced at the moment. The company already uses ARM Technology for its windows embedded and mobile devices however now Microsoft will have more access to their technology which can help it to compete with Apple which had been gaining market share in the mobile arena with its iPod, iPhone and now iPad.
The news announcement might affect Intel’s relationship with Microsoft since ARM is dominant in the mobile processors arena and poses a significant threat to Intel.
The deal will give Arm Holdings Plc (LON:ARM) a significant spot and help it to hold off competition from other microprocessor manufacturers in the market.

I was just searching for meaning of “traction” on the Google search engine and came onto something interesting. Google has now started showing related advertisements alongside the searches. I am guessing that the related advertisements are decided by Google on the basis of what terms containing your search are popular.
The related ads feature will help Google increase revenue through searches performed on its search engine since it enables the search engine to show advertisements for those categories where the search engine might be failing to meet the requirements for the advertisers. In other words, it helps the search engine to efficiently sell its ad inventory.
According to me, this could be a good news for advertisers since now they can have a bigger, wider audience however in case their advertisement is really not targeted properly – it could dramatically affect their sales.
For the term ”traction” I was not actually looking for the orthopaedic version of the term but how its related to business. The ads in this case were related to spinal and neck traction and not relevant to what I was actually looking for.

Google has received the final shipment of its Nexus Ones and will discontinue selling the devices once they are sold out. Even though Google has been successfully able to dominate the mobile operating system arena, the android based nexus one failed to garner the sales that Google was expecting.
What we can speculate out of this move is that either Google has pulled out from the phone hardware arena or is coming out with something new that has not been revealed at the moment.

Reasons for the failure of Nexus One -
- Launch Date – The phone was released in January after the new year. Since December has more sales because of the Christmas and New Year, people had already got the things they wanted as their gift (iphone??). Perhaps Google failed to realise that their launch date could have affected their sales significantly.
- Features and Specifications – The phone did not really had to offer anything out of the box for the users, what was already in the market. Even though highly anticipated among the people, it did not offered much reasons to especially iphone users to switch to Google’s new phone.
- Lack of Support – There seemed to be a lot more limited support for the Nexus One. Since Google provided support mainly through its online forums, it seemed a lot more frustrating for the user when he could not find the solution to his problem. The Nexus One had a relatively new operating system – Android and it is expected that many people will be having problem migrating to a new operating system or with technical concepts of the phone. People like to get their issues resolved fast and in case they don’t then they would prefer getting a replacement or a new phone.
- Pricing – The phone’s pricing had been relatively higher than other HTC phones available in the market. As in my case I preferred to have HTC Desire rather than Nexus One because the price difference was relatively huge and there is hardly much difference in the specifications of both the phones. I simply ended up saving more than a hundred pounds by getting the HTC Desire and not the Nexus One. Though this can be attributed to Google’s branding and commission they were getting on sale of each phone, these things do not really matter to the consumer.
- Marketing – Even though Google dominates the web, it failed to use its strength in order to employ the best marketing tactics for the phone. Even though the data from trends is not accurate, it gives a good idea of the popularity. As in the case of iphone versus nexus one, the nexus one had less popularity and reach than what iphone managed a few years before Google. Considering that the reach among internet users is higher than the previous years, and dominance of Google on the internet – it should have shown a lot more for their product.

Google’s Nexus One demonstrated the abilities of what Google’s Android could do and even though the phone has failed, the android os is gaining popularity among the phone users.

Even though the Desire and Legend came out in the same month, the HTC Desire is said to be a successor of the TC Legend. Part of the reason could be because both of the phones came out with the same version of the Operating System and have almost similar features.
The Desire is said to be a powerful android phone powered with a 1 GHz processor and also more amounts of RAM compared to the Legend. This can be useful for those who want to run media and heavy applications on their device. Even though Legend can also perform the same functions without hiccups, there can be a significant difference in the loading times of applications, web page rendering etcetera. In case you want to access heavy web pages and games on your phone then the Desire would be more suitable option for you.
HTC Legend has a smaller screen with less resolution compared to the Desire. Though a smaller screen might not be preferred by some people, it might be preferred by those who want the phone to easily fit in their pocket without problem. The Desire is quite a bulky phone with a large screen.
The phones have no difference in their 3G / Networking capabilities. Both phones have got HSDPA, WiFi, Bluetooth which makes it easy to transfer data or access internet.
Other than that there is no remarkable difference in the features. Applications can vary depending on the service provider. The Desire is a bit expensive than the Legend because it has more features than the Legend. However in case you want to save some money, then the Legend will serve your purpose well.

Even though officially Froyo has not yet been made available for the HTC Desire and many other android phones. Press release from ARM has claimed that the latest version of Android 2.2 brings several performance updates for the phone as the operating system exploits the ARM architecture.
Since the Snapdragon Processor has similar architecture to that of the Cortex A8 we can expect similar or more performance from the Snapdragon processor installed in the HTC Desire.
In Android 2.2 Google’s new compiler Dalvik JIT Compiler generates native Thumb 2 code which can boost performance to the Java application framework and improve application performance resulting in greater battery life.
Also the latest version enables data processing parallelization to accelerate various functions like multi-media playback and graphics rendering. This will allow developers to produce performance intensive applications which can be 3D gaming and VoIP clients.
Also users can expect improved JavaScript performance and page rendering speeds in the latest version of Android Operating System for mobile devices.
This upgrade will be really worth for HTC phone users who loved the phone but had been disappointed with the battery life of the phone.

A while ago I had shown my disappointment regarding the battery performance of HTC Desire that I had purchased a while ago. Now after talking to my friends I have realised that I am not the only one who has noticed unsatisfactory results of the HTC phone battery.
I had gone through comments and feedback of many other customers out of which many claimed that their phone had been performing quite well. However I have been through several other websites where many have claimed dissatisfaction with the phone battery. As I had talked about testing my phone battery, I did.
The test was quite simple – After performing a complete charge on the phone. I kept the phone usage to a minimum mainly to check the battery and other times it was kept on the standby mode. The phone had its wireless fidelity, bluetooth and other features that could drain the battery turned off.
The result was that I noticed that the battery had depleted completely in less than four days. Now HTC website claims that the phone has a standby of around 360 hours but I have hardly got anywhere near it.

Seems like Apple Incorporated is quite scared of the new Dell Streak that has been recently introduced in the US and UK market, so it has gone to start advertising its products against the competitor’s products. Though many companies would call this foul play, according to me its really a grey area to discuss about.
A search on Google returns advertisement of not only Dell.com but also an iPad advertisement.

I think that Apple is trying to be offensive at the moment especially because the Streak is by Dell powered with Google’s Android Operating System. Apple and Dell have been competitor’s for a long while and the Streak is going to tap into the tablet market which recently Apple has taken over with its iPad.

The Dell Streak seems to be quite a promising product from Dell and has got a lot of features that can make this device one of the hottest product in the market, and the pricing has also been made a bit competitive to the Apple iPad.

Apple is set to release its 4th Generation of iPod Touch devices which might be coming as soon as September in the United Kingdom. This time iPod devices will be having same specifications as the Apple iPhone 4 however the phone feature would be missing from the touch. The facetime camera would still be there allowing users to make video calls on the network through Wi-Fi.
One thing that inquirer pointed out was the microphone which might come integrated in the iPod however Apple might want consumers to buy their inexpensive accessories and therefore not add the microphone in the iPod Touch 4G.
The iPod Touch 4G will be sold as a multimedia device unlike its predecessors this time.

Though previously there had been news regarding HTC Desire to be hitting the American shores in August, it might be coming out a bit early than expected.
As Engadget reports, a new HTC Device around the corner has got its approval by the FCC and it has its model code quite close to the Desire. The possible change in the model code would be due to the change in frequencies what the US model offers compared to the European version of HTC Desire.
It is quite possible that the American version of the HTC Desire would be coming out as HTC Triumph.
As Mobilecrunch reports, the Desire might not be coming on top mobile phone carriers which might be a bit disappointing.

The iPhone 4 has just been released in the market however the people are already expecting for the release of the Apple iPhone 5 that is going to come in the market probably the next year. According to next coming device by the Apple would be an updated version of the iPhone 4 with 4G network capabilities.
Since most of the companies in the world have not yet migrated to 4G networks, It is quite possible that Apple is waiting for the networks to make the move first and then follow up with the release of an updated iPhone.
iPhone 4 has already broken Apple’s previous sales records. Since Apple keeps it tight on what’s next coming from the company, I cannot have any idea. But here is the deal, Apple keeps a tab on what is in demand and what is going to be in demand in the future – and 4G is something that the company cannot ignore so it is quite possible that a prototype is already being produced at the company which will be coming out in the next year.
